Introduction to the Science of Reading; How the Brain Learns: A Walk down Memory Lane; Integration of Structured Literacy & The Big Five--Phonics, Phonemic Awareness, Voc
Sessions Include:
• Demonstration of Structured Literacy with students
• Practicum
• Supervision of practicum from Certified Instructor (CALT or C-SLDS)
For: Educators or others wishing to learn the concepts behind Structured Literacy/The Science of Reading and how to effectively instruct students in one-on-one, small group, or large classroom settings.

This summer, participants will develop and enhance their knowledge of the following components:

· Systematic and Cumulative Instruction
· Direct Instruction
· Diagnostic Teaching
Our training provides teachers with knowledge of language development and the skills needed to help all students make satisfactory progress in oral and written language, reading, decoding
Why This Training: Our training will provide the time and the scaffolding educators need to successfully implement what they have learned. Technical information is presented, and it deserves both time and practice. We feel quick trainings without immediate feedback and assistance will not be as effective and will lead to errors; therefore, this training is for individuals who care to learn the why and the how of crafting instruction to meet individual needs of students.
Also, this training will equip educators to teach entire classrooms in a cost-efficient way.
This course does not include a practicum. A practicum is necessary for certification and may be arranged after completion of this course.

For: Rising 1st through 5th graders will develop skills in thisliteracy clinic. Students participate in a half day program that teaches using proven research-based & evidence-based strategies in these areas:
All students will benefit, especially students who have or may have dyslexia.

Instructors of our Science of Reading/Structured Literacy courses are veteran educators who have completed extensive training and study in Structured Literacy and the Science of Reading.
Each instructor has dedicated many hundreds of hours to learning, implementing, and training others in the methodologies. Instructors hold certifications in Structured Literacy through various organizations. Many are on the boards for their state's branch of the International Dyslexia Association.

Lynne Walker, M. Ed., M.A., is certified as an Academic Language Therapist (ALTA) and a Dyslexia Specialist (IDA), serves on the Tennessee branch of the International Dyslexia Association, and holds certificates from Simultaneous Multisensory Institute of Language Arts (SMILA), the Slingerland Institute, and Multisensory Teaching Approach (MTA). She is currently the director of teacher training in middle Tennessee for SMILA and has completed 25 years of training in Multisensory teaching.
